Plant is an upright, smooth perennial with fibrous roots. Its preferred habitat is prairies, woods and woodland edges, roadsides. distribution is throughout the Escambia region.

The leaves are alternate and basal on the stem. Each leaf is linear, no teeth and no lobes.

The flowers are yellow with a brown vein, terminal; flowering stem may be branched but no more than three flowers appear on one stem. The flowers are symmetrical in form and bisexual in nature. The color ranges from dark to light yellow. Flowers occur in the spring and early summer.

Fruit is a capsule.
