Celastrina neglecta Gossamer-wing Butterfly Family Blues (Polyommatinae) Sub-family The upperside of the male is powdery blue often with an ill-defined white patch on the hindwing. The female has much white scaling on both forewings and hindwings. The underside of the hindwing is pale gray or white with small black dots and submarginal dark zig-zag line. The wing span is about 1-1/2 inches. The caterpillar host plants are Dogwood, New Jersey Tea and other roadside plants. The preferred habitat is stream valleys, pwerline right-of-ways, and gardens. |
