| Red-Top Polypore is characterized by its brilliant orange/red cap. The stalk, if present, is usually lateral. The cap is 2-10 inches broad, hairless and tough; whitish on the underside. The spores occur in summer and autumn. Preferred habitat is on or near stumps and logs of conifers or broad-leaf forests of moist bottom-lands. |
