Puffballs
Lycoperdon candidum
Lycoperdaceae (True Puffball) Family
Puffballs are found in several groupings, size and shapes.
The most common is the candidum. The plant is small and
oval with sharp, white spines that flake off at the edges. They
are usually about 1-1/2 inches high and about 1-2 inches broad.
Sometimes several puffballs may be fused together. The preferred
habitat is open grounds, pastures, golf courses and at the margin
of pine woods. Spores occur in spring and autumn.
