| Old Man of the Woods is a medium-sized mushroom which habitat is under broad-leaved trees in dense swamps and bottom lands. It has a special fondness for laurel oak. To recognize the Old Man, look for a cap 1-1/2 to 6 inches wide, scaly, gray to black with a white to gray underside. The tube openings are small and gray (at maturity). Spores are black. |
