Fagaceae (Beech) Family

These trees, their habitat and leaf forms are almost identical. The purpose here is to show a basic difference to make recognition easier.

Flowers occur in early spring and the fruit matures in the autumn.

Turkey Oak - Look at the base of the leaf where it joins the leaf stalk. The shape is like a wedge.

Southern Red Oak - Virtually identical to Turkey Oak except where it joins the leaf stalk the shape is like a cup; rounded.
