| The Northern Water Snake is identified by the crossbands on its neck and dark blotches on the back and sides. The belly has crestent-like markings scattered on or a row along each side. The body is stout with a broad head. The scales have minute ridges. Its preferred habitat is all types of freshwater and tidal marshes. |
