The phosphorus mushrooms are easily recognized due to their
miniature size, usually about 1.5 inch tall with a bell-like
cap of about 3/4 inch. The colors range from red, orange, yellow,
white and lime green. The cap and stem are usually the same color
while the gills are white and partially attached to the stem.
Its preferred habitat is in soil or moss under broad-leaf trees,
or at the root of newly transplanted green house plants. One
way to clearly identify these small mushrooms is to rub the cap
and gills between the fingers, which leaves a waxy substance
on the skin. |
