While Fragrant Clitocybe may appear to have a good case of
green mold, don't be fooled by its appearance. Things are exactly
as they should be. The cap is flat, moist, radially streaked
with hairs that are bluish green to pale green and those are
covered with a whitish cast. The gills may be adnate (scales),
or may be extending partially down the stalk. The stalk is white
to buff. Fragrant Clitocybe emits a strong odor of anise. Preferred
habitat is under hardwoods or mixed hardwood stands. Spores occur
in the summer and autumn. |
