Agaricaceae (Meadow) Mushroom Family
 
The Flat-top mushroom is identified by its almost flat, white cap that has gray or black-brown scales. The gills are white and turn purple-brown with age.  The collar is usually situated on the upper part of the stem.  Its preferred habitat is under broad-leaved trees such as oak and magnolia.
