Plant is an upright or reclining perennial. Its preferred habitat is open pine woods and clearings. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.

Leaves are alternate on the stem; in sets of three; slightly heart-shaped or rhombic
(quadrangular with the lateral angle blunt to nearly rounded) and attached to the leaf stem between the lobes; prominent veins.

Flowers arise from the leaf axil; elongated clusters that open from the base upward. Color is chrome yellow; about one half inch long. Calyx is obvious. Flowers occur in the Summer.

Fruit is a legume
