Plant is an upright, smooth to hairy annual. Its preferred habitat is roadsides, ditches and waste sites. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.

The leaves are alternate on the stem; pinnately compound with leaflets being widest at the middle or oblong; no teeth or lobes.

Flowers are a raceme; the calyx is purplish to red; five petals that are reddish purple to nearly orange; ten stamens. Flowers occur in the summer.

Fruit is a legume.
