Helenium amarum Asteraceae (Composite Sunflower) Family ![]() Plant is an upright, smooth, branching annual with a taproot.
Preferred habitat is Leaves are alternate on the stem, no leaf stalk; linear. Flowers are at the top of the plant; solitary heads on stalks; symmetrical in form. Disc flowers are bisexual and yellow. Ray flowers are female; ten to fifteen in number; three lobed at the tip and also yellow. Flowers occur in the spring and summer. Fruit is achene (a seed which outer layer is fused to it).
