| Artist's Fungus is large, up to 20 inches broad. The cap is hard and woody, semi-circular or fan-shaped, pale to dark gray-brown with ridges and furrows. The underside is white to pale brown (bruises dark brown). There is usually no evidence of a stem. The preferred habitat is on logs and stumps of broad-leaved trees, or in the wounds of living trees. Spores are produced in the summer and into autumn. |
